DUTRA COMMITS TO MERCYHURST

Press Release

Toronto Lakeshore Patriots co-captain Kyle Dutra (photo credit - TBSG Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the Mercyhurst College Lakers beginning with the 2013-14 Atlantic Hockey season.

The 6'2", 195 lbs. native of Mississauga, Ontario is playing in his second full OJHL season, after playing six games for the Mississauga Chargers in 2009-10, in which he would record two goals and five points. He made the jump to junior hockey full-time last season as a member of the Patriots, then Upper Canada, notching 20 goals, tied for third on the club, and 40 points as a rookie. His play ultimately earned him a spot as a member of Team East at the 2009 CJHL Prospects Games played in Dauphin, Manitoba. Thus far, this season, the hard-working forward has continued his progression, recording 12 goals and 29 points in 25 games played for the Patriots and was a member of Team Canada East that brought home the silver medal from the recent World Junior 'A' Challenge that was held in Langley, B.C.

"I am extremely happy for Kyle that he was able to achieve his goal of attaining a Division 1 scholarship. Kyle combines excellent academics along with his hockey ability and brings a great work ethic to everything he does. I am extremely confident that Kyle will flourish at Mercyhurst and help them achieve an Atlantic Hockey title and return to the NCAA tournament," commented Patriots Head Coach Mike Tarantino.

Dutra is the fourth Patriot to accept an NCAA Division 1 scholarship this season joining James De Haas (Clarkson), Matt Buckles (Cornell), and Luke Shiplo (Western Michigan).

Congratulations Kyle and best of luck on your hockey journey.
