SEA DOGS ACTIVE ON TRADE FRONT

Press Release

SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs made a pair of trades Tuesday, netting 19-year-old forward Maxime Villemaire from the Drummondville Voltigeurs and a first-round pick in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.

The first deal saw Saint John send its first-round pick in the 2012 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. In exchange the team receives Rimouski’s first-round pick in the import draft and Quebec’s fourth-round pick in the 2012 entry draft. Rouyn-Noranda also returned Saint John’s second-round pick in the 2012 draft, acquired in a previous trade.

The Sea Dogs then sent the second-round pick to Drummondville, along with a sixth-round pick in 2013 for Villemaire.

The six-foot-two, 219-pound forward has set career highs with eight goals, nine assists and 17 points through 33 games in his 19-year-old season. The hard-nosed Lasalle, Que., native also has 101 penalty minutes. As a rookie with Drummondville last year he recorded six goals, 10 points and 125 minutes in penalties.

Saint John also made a minor deal on Friday, sending seventh- and 14th-round picks in 2012 to Blainville-Boisbriand in exchange for a 14th round pick in 2012, completing the Charles Roussel trade.

The Sea Dogs still hold two picks in the first round of the 2012 entry draft. The final trade period of the QMJHL season ends Saturday at 1 p.m. Atlantic Time.
