Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that
Kamloops Blazers’ forward Colin Smith is the CHL Player of the Week for
the week ending February 3 after recording 10 points including four
goals and six assists in four games.
The three-time WHL Player of the Week helped the Blazers pick up
three wins last week beginning on Monday with a goal and two assists as
second star of a 6-5 overtime win over the Kelowna Rockets. On
Wednesday he scored once despite a 5-2 loss to the Portland Winterhawks
but bounced back on Friday by matching a season-high with five points
including a goal and four assists and was second star of the 7-4 win
over the Spokane Chiefs. He wrapped up his week on Saturday extending
his point-streak to six games with a goal in a 3-2 shootout win over the
Everett Silvertips.
Smith, a 19-year-old from Edmonton, AB, is playing in his fourth full
WHL season with the Blazers. Selected in the seventh round of the 2012
NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche, Smith is currently third in WHL
scoring with 86 points in 55 games scoring 36 goals and 50 assists for
the Blazers who sit third in the Western Conference with 75 points.
Also considered for the award this week was Detroit Red Wings
prospect defenceman Ryan Sproul of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds who
scored three goals and three assists for six points in two games, and
QMJHL rookie and 2013 NHL Draft prospect Martin Reway of the Gatineau
Olympiques who scored four goals with two assists for six points in two
games.
