Boyes and Sidorkiewicz to be inducted into Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame

Press Release

Oshawa Generals Head Athletic Trainer and Equipment Manager Bryan Boyes along with former Gennies goaltender and NHLer Peter Sidorkiewicz , now an Assistant Coach with the Erie Otters, have both been named part of the Oshawa Generals Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2013 inductees.

Boyes has worked with the team since 1976, when he joined the team as a stick boy at the age of 14. In 1982 he was given his title of Head Athletic Trainer and Equipment Manager and he has held the title ever since.

Boyes is no stranger to championships. Since 1983, he has been a part of a Generals team that has won the OHL Championship four times in 1983, 1987, 1990, and 1997 and the Memorial Cup once in 1990.

Boyes has not only been the Generals’ Equipment Manager, but has played that role several times on the international level with Team Canada at both the World Junior Championships, and the 2010 Mens World Championships, which was held in Germany. Getting the honour six times for the Juniors, his most recent appearance was the 2012 Championships that were held in Calgary and Edmonton. His five other appearances included Ottawa (2009), Vancouver (2006), North Dakota (2005), Winnipeg (1999), and Boston (1996). Canada has brought home gold four out of the six times Bryan has been there.

Another General, goalie Peter Sidorkiewicz, will be inducted into the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame as well. Playing with the Generals from 1980-84, Peter’s best season with Oshawa was 1982-83 when the Generals won the OHL Championship. Sidorkiewicz posted a record of 36 wins, 20 losses, and 3 ties along with a 3.61 Goals-Against-Average. He was drafted by Washington Capitals, but played his seven NHL seasons with the Hartford Whalers, Ottawa Senators, and New Jersey Devils.

Born in Poland, Sidorkiewicz moved to Oshawa with his family at the age of three.  He has been a member of the Otters coaching staff since 1999.

The 28th annual Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony and fundraising dinner will be held at the General Motors Centre on Wednesday, May 29.  The 2013 inductees are hockey's Bryan Boyes in the builder category, softball's Chris Jones, swimmer Barb Loreno and hockey's Peter Sidorkiewicz in the player category and the 1958 Oshawa juvenile hockey team in the team category.

The evening will begin with a reception and cash bar at 5:30 p.m., followed by a 6:30 p.m. dinner and the induction ceremony at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $65 per person and can be purchased after March 15 from Gill Graham at 905-579-3524 or at the GM Centre box office.

There is no charge to attend just the induction ceremony.
