Bruins forward Wahlin makes NCAA DI commitment

Press Release

The Austin Bruins, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), have announced that forward Brandon Wahlin has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Massachusetts. UMASS is a member of the Hockey East Conference.

Wahlin, 20, has been selected the past two years, including this season, to be a part of the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament.  In last year’s Top Prospect Tournament, the native of White Bear Lake, Minnesota had three points in three games for Team Central.  This season, he was selected to play on the Dakota team.

Wahlin (5’9/175), who has played in 100 career regular season games to date during the last two seasons with the Bruins, has 30 goals and 65 assists for 95 career points. In addition, Wahlin has appeared in eight career playoff games, registering seven playoff points.  He currently is tied for the NAHL scoring lead with 55 points and leads in the league in assists with 38.

Wahlin was recently named as the NAHL’s Forward of the Month for December. Wahlin has already set career highs for goals, assists and points, something his head coach Chris Tok attributes to his hard work and attitude heading into this season.

“Brandon brings a lot to the table, but he has also worked hard for it.  Most importantly makes an impact on and off the ice.  He came into the season more driven knowing this was his last shot.  He is a very dynamic hockey player when he gets the puck on his stick.  He makes his scoring chances count.  It's great that Brandon has been recognized by a Division I institution for the transformation into a player and person he is today,” stated Tok.

The entire Bruins staff wishes him the best of luck with his next step in life. Wahlin will begin his career with the Minutemen in the 2013-2014 season.
