Fucale, Reway and Drouin named the TELUS three stars of the week

Press Release

Zachary Fucale, Martin Reway and Jonathan Drouin were named today the TELUS three stars of the week for the period extending from January 28th to February 3rd, 2013.

The star goaltender of the Halifax Mooseheads, Zachary Fucale, was the week’s top player, earning TELUS first star honours after registering two wins on the road. He allowed only one goal during those two games while maintaining an incredible save percentage of .984. The 17 year-old goaltender recorded his first shutout of the season with 26 saves Thursday night while the Mooseheads defeated the Saguenéens 7-0 in Chicoutimi. The following day in Baie-Comeau, his 34 saves earned him the first star of the game along with a 3-1 victory over one of the League’s best teams. His recent successes have dropped his goals-against-average down to 2.39. Zachary Fucale is within striking distance of Jacques-Plante Trophy, an honour given to the goaltender with the best goals-against-average. However, the competition promises to be fierce with Armada’s keeper, Etienne Marcoux, who has an average of 2.14. All eyes will be on Fucale, who is touted as the top goaltending prospect for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.

The TELUS second star goes to Martin Reway, the impressive Gatineau Olympiques rookie. In two games, he recorded four goals and two assists for a total of six points. Two of his four goals were game-winning markers which helped the Olympiques register two wins. Reway was named the first star of a 6-3 decision over the Saint John Sea Dogs with two goals and an assist. He scored two consecutive goals, the game-winner and the insurance marker, at the beginning of the third period. He distinguished himself yet again the next day with another 3-point outing to help Gatineau defeat the Huskies in an offensive duel that ended 6-4. The young Olympiques’ prospect currently sits sixth among League rookies with 44 points in 35 games.

Talented Halifax Mooseheads winger Jonathan Drouin earns the third star by offering up inspired hockey, leading his team to two road victories. Since the start of the season, Drouin has tallied an incredible 2 points per game and this week was no different as he recorded six points in two games while maintaining a +/- of +4. In Chicoutimi on Thursday night, he registered two goals and two assists to lead his team to a convincing 7-0 win. His two goals represented his 25th and 26th of the season. This strong performance earned him the first star of the game. He also stepped it up when the Mooseheads visited one of the QMJHL’s best in Baie-Comeau on Friday. Drouin collected a goal and an assist and was named the second star in a 3-1 victory. The winger has now registered at least one point in 14 straight contests. Considered as one of the top propects for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, Jonathan Drouin has registered 68 points in 33 games so far this season. He sits in 7th place in the scoring race, only ten points behind Josh Currie of the PEI Rocket.
