Okotoks Oiler Executive Passes Away

Press Release

It is with deep sadness, we announce the death of Greg Wedderburn, an Okotoks Oiler Junior 'A Hockey Club founding member and Board Vice President. He passed away peacefully, aged 64,  at his home on Saturday, February 2, 2013, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Greg, will be remembered as an original Okotokian, who touched the lives of many in the community through his years as a teacher at Okotoks Junior High School, and his passion for sports, especially hockey.  For many years Greg (#9) proudly played with the Okotoks Oilers, and he had many fond memories of which spoke often, particularly their Provincial Championships in 1974-75 and 1975-76. Greg went on to be a devoted volunteer to the hockey programs of the community as a coach, member of various Boards, and always leading the way improving and building new projects for the benefit of youth and sports.

We offer our heartfelt condolences to his wife Kathy, daughter Ange (Brian), son Tim (Kim), his two grandchildren, his Father Lawrie, and other family members.
