PETAN NAMED HUSKY WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CALGARY, AB. – The Western Hockey League announced today that forward Nic Petan, of the Portland Winterhawks, has been named the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for January.

The 17 year-old forward led all WHL scorers collecting 26 points through the month of January finding the net nine times and accumulating 17 assists to go along with a +11 rating.  Petan gathered points in 12 of 13 games played including multiple points in nine games and five contests where he had three point outputs.  Petan’s efforts also earned him a Three Star selection six times, with three being 1^st Stars.

Petan currently leads all WHL scorers with 93 points (36 goals, 57 assists) in 53 games played.  The Portland Winterhawks finished January with a 9-2-0-2 record, are undefeated in their last seven games and currently boast the League’s best record at 43-7-1-2 for 89 points.

From Delta, BC, Petan is in his second full season with the Portland Winterhawks.  Selected by the ‘Hawks 16^th overall in the 2010 WHL Draft, Petan is a highly touted NHL Top Prospect leading up to the 2013 Draft and recently participated in the CHL/NHL Home Hardware Top Prospects Game.

His accomplishments make Nic Petan a deserving choice as the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for January.
