CALGARY, AB. – The Western Hockey League announced today that forward Nic Petan, of the Portland Winterhawks, has been named the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for January.
The
17 year-old forward led all WHL scorers collecting 26 points through
the month of January finding the net nine times and accumulating 17
assists to go along with a +11 rating. Petan gathered
points in 12 of 13 games played including multiple points in nine games
and five contests where he had three point outputs. Petan’s efforts also earned him a Three Star selection six times, with three being 1st Stars.
Petan currently leads all WHL scorers with 93 points (36 goals, 57 assists) in 53 games played. The
Portland Winterhawks finished January with a 9-2-0-2 record, are
undefeated in their last seven games and currently boast the League’s
best record at 43-7-1-2 for 89 points.
From Delta, BC, Petan is in his second full season with the Portland Winterhawks. Selected by the ‘Hawks 16th
overall in the 2010 WHL Draft, Petan is a highly touted NHL Top
Prospect leading up to the 2013 Draft and recently participated in the
CHL/NHL Home Hardware Top Prospects Game.
His accomplishments make Nic Petan a deserving choice as the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for January.
