SENEY COMMITS TO MERRIMACK

Press Release

Kingston Voyageurs rookie Brett Seney (photo credit - Shawn Muir/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the Merrimack College Warriors beginning with the 2014 or 2015 Hockey East season.

The underage rookie and younger Seney on the Vees is having a good inaugural season with the club, recording three goals and ten points thus far, but big things are expected from the 7th round pick of the Oshawa Generals from this past year's OHL Priority Selection.

Seney has played in 43 games this season with the Vees and is coming off a massive season in minor midget, where he scored 26 goals and 65 points in only 38 games played for the London Jr. Knights.

Seney had a couple of schools to choose from and in the end decided on Merrimack, which is in North Andover, Massachusetts, playing in the tough Hockey East Conference.

"It's great to have some options, but in the end I just absolutely fell in love with the Merrimack campus and that was the deciding factor for me," said Seney.

The Merrimack Warriors currently sit in third place in the Hockey East standings, ahead of fourth place and perennial powerhouse Boston University and fifth place Providence, home of last years Vees' Regular Season MVP Steven McParland. The Warriors are also ahead of other top notch programs such as UMass-Amherst, UMass-Lowell and Maine.

The Warriors are coached by Mark Dennehy, who is also the Assistant Athletic Director at Merrimack. The Boston College graduate is in his 8th season with the Warriors.

The Vees have a couple of minor ties to the current Warriors roster, as defenceman Mike Wills was a standout in the OJHL for the Lindsay Muskies for a number of years playing against the Vees, and another defenceman, Kyle Bigos, was the MVP of the RBC Cup for the champion Vernon Vipers during the Vees National Championship run in 2008-09.  Bigos was also a fourth round pick of the Edmonton Oilers, but will not play with Seney, as he is currently a senior on the roster.

"We're absolutely thrilled to be able to announce another full commitment for our program," said Head Coach Colin Birkas.

Seney joins Chad Duchesne (Northeastern) and Charlie Finn (Colgate) as Vees players to commit to NCAA Division I scholarships.

Congratulations to Brett and we look forward to seeing him continue to excel during his OJHL career!
