Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that 2013
NHL Draft prospect Kerby Rychel of the Windsor Spitfires is the CHL
Player of the Week for the week ending February 10 after scoring three
goals and seven assists for 10 points in three games with a plus-minus
rating of plus-1.
Rychel collected a career-high six points last Thursday night including his 30th
goal of the season along with five assists as third star of a 9-4 win
over the Peterborough Petes. On Saturday he scored once with two
assists despite an 8-5 loss to the Ottawa 67’s, then extended his
season-high point-streak to seven games Sunday scoring one goal in a 3-1
loss to the Kingston Frontenacs.
Rychel, an 18-year-old from Tecumseh, ON, is playing in his third OHL
season. Tied for ninth in league scoring with 66 points in 54 games,
Rychel was recently ranked 18th among North American Skaters by NHL Central Scouting for the 2013 NHL Draft.
Also considered for the award this week was Peter Trainor of the
Rimouski Oceanic, and Brenden Walker of the Saskatoon Blades. Both
players recorded nine points by scoring four goals and five assists with
Trainor doing so in three games and Walker in four games all of which
were victories for the Blades.
